To flow on the mat and deciding on the path of becoming a yoga teacher changed not only Giulia’s personal approach towards the physical body, but the overall sensation of gliding and skating on the ice. During competitions she often struggled catching her breath and had difficulties accessing the right abilities in the very moment of performing a program.

This experience led her to wanting to learn more about how to improve her physical awareness and how to channel emotions during hectic situations.

In figure skating it’s not only the athletic aspect that is requested of a skater, but also physicality and artistry; the interpretation of the music and the choreography which gets expressed authentically through the individual style of the skater. The pressure to bring forward the required skills and connect all these factors; technique, expression, skating skills ect. is a real challenge.

The practice of Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga where one moves from posture to posture initiated by the breath. The term « Nyasa; means placing / positioning, where Vi – means; in a specific / intelligent way». With a creative yet thoughtful sequence linked to breath techniques, functional movement and a variety of postures based on strength, balance and flexibility the skaters get the opportunity to tap into their personal internal state of body awareness.

Giulia truly believes that by creating a calm space for skaters outside of the competitive field and practice on the ice, an important personal exploration process can be developed and experienced. Moving the body with control through the breath will get the student to reconnect with the individual sensations. Therefore, the journey to move beyond the physical and mental limitations gets enhanced. Giulia is passionate to share the amazing benefits of flowing on the mat in regards to figure skating based on her personal experience. The Skaters Flow is meant for everyone who is interested to work on themselves with dedication, consistency and openness.
